New year´s Eve in Argentina

New  Year`s  Eve  is  possibly  the  most  awaited  celebration  in  Argentina.  It  is  the perfect

opportunity  for  its inhabitants  to  do  one  of  the  activities  they  enjoy  the  most,  gathering

together with friends and family.

Everything  starts the  afternoon  of the  31st  when  everybody  hastily  leaves work to  get  ready

for the  evening. Some people say that it is not a true Argentinian celebration if there is not a well

prepared barbecue which must be started early on or during the sunset.

Even though in our country there  is  no  popular  downtown  meeting  point  where  everyone  goes

for the usual  New  Year’s  countdown  at  twelve o’clock,  there  is  always  time  for  a  toast  while

admiring  the  sky,  since  another  tradition  is  to light  fireworks  of  every  size  and  color.

Tourists  can  fail  to  understand  why  two neighbours can take their passion for fireworks to the

extent of becoming competitive  for the loudest and  biggest  explosion.  After  midnight  a  lot  of

people,  especially the young ones,   turn  to  the legendary local nightlife to continue celebrating.

New Year´s Eve is always a special occasion, but in Argentina it is always very  enjoyable.
